Oil Spill in Gulf…

The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has been going for quite a long time.  I remember sitting in class the day that my teacher told me about the spill, many months later the oil is still pouring into the ocean. On CNN’s website it has a tracker that shows how many barrels of oil are being poured into the ocean. The number this second is 3,489,055.. but each second it rises.

Some may keep saying.. Drill baby drill, but when you see what the oil is doing to our economy and the wildlife.. your thoughts can be changed. Finding new sources of energy for our cars and other things that need oil is the answer.

The main thing that we need and use is destroying us! The oil spill is no good.

Do something about it.

Apple Releases Letter About iPhone 4

Today, Apple sent out a later regarding the new iPhone problems going around. Many users have continuously complained about the signal problems when they hold the antenna band on the bottom of the phone. Apple’s response? They say that it was a formula problem in the signal display. Apple says that the formula they are currently using show 1 or 2 more bars than the actual signal strength. So, if you are in a low signal area where you actually have 2 bars worth of signal strength, the iPhone is displaying 3 or 4 bars. That is why people are being deceived to thinking they are having bad signal.

Steve Jobs Tells Angry iPhone 4 User to “Relax, it’s just a phone.”

Recently, an iPhone user sent Steve Jobs and an engineer an email complaining about the issues with the new iPhone 4 issues. What does he have to say about it? Basically…get a life, its just a phone, enjoy the more important things in life.

Here’s a snippet from Gizmodo:

Original mail:
[Apple engineer name redacted],

When we spoke, you would not tell me that there is a fix for this phone?

A friend just sent me this.

I assume there is no fix then. If this is legit, I have lost all respect for apple and just want to go back to Verizon and get a nice Android phone. And don’t tell me they have the same issues, all our co-workers with Androids are just mocking us right now…. “Hey, I am going to go in the basement and continue my call. You can use my office on the 2nd floor so you can get a signal”. You are going to kill your brand over one product. Apple is coming off arrogant and rude. If there is no fix just tell people so they can return their phones. We have work to do. I have bought just about every apple product made in the last 20 years and this is the 1st time I am ashamed to be a MAC fan.

This is just sickening,
[Tom]

Steve Jobs’ reply:
No, you are getting all worked up over a few days of rumors. Calm down.

iPhone 4 user:
I am really insulted… “Calm down”…. “rumors”… What arrogance. This is will be marked as the begging of the end of Apple. Seriously, DO THE RIGHT THING. I just had dinner with 3 people who had iPhone 4s we all cant make calls without dropping. There is no rumors it is reality.

Steve Jobs:
You are most likely in an area with very low signal strength.

iPhone 4 user:
Stop with jack*** comments. I have has every iphone made. They all had a bad signal but this is the so much worse X3. The whole country is is in a “low signal strength” in reality… all but apple campus and your house it seems? AT&T maps are a joke. I am in “excellent” to “good” coverage and on my iPhone 1, Iphone 3G, and my iPhone 3Gs, I could at least make a telephone call. After all, it is a phone. Iphone 4…. 5 bars….. touch the phone… ZERO bars call drops.
Steve. IT DOES NOT WORK! Geezzz I hope this this is not really you. Are we on a different MHz? I have yet to see an iPhone [4] work in Richmond when you hold it in your hand. It is not “isolated”. I was a big fan. But I am done.

Steve Jobs:
You may be working from bad data. Not your fault. Stay tuned. We are working on it.

Steve Jobs’ second reply, without BGR reader replying to the previous one:
Retire, relax, enjoy your family. It is just a phone. Not worth it.

I personally think Steve Jobs is handling the situation very well compared to what other tech bloggers think. He is trying to get his own fans and customers to realize that enjoying life and family are way more important than a simple phone issue. Props to you Jobs.

Starbucks Free WiFi

For all of the Starbucks addicts out there, you can now spend more time there browsing the web. This time you wont have to log into or pay anything. Sorry AT&T users, you are no longer special. Starting today, they are offering free WiFi for everyone. Now there is no more logging in, or borrowing someones email account to get in…not that I would do something like that. I’m only there for the coffee, then I’m out of there.

So there you go guys, enjoy free WiFi. Good luck finding somewhere to sit with your caffeine high and near anxiety attacks. Happy drinking/browsing!

Floods Across Europe

Through the past few months, rain has taken a tremendous tole on Europe. Lives have been lost and families are being forced to leave there homes. The photos below, by The Big Picture, are an excellent and tragic illustration of what the Europeans are dealing with.

I can’t imagine being in this position…seeing everything you’ve built up through the years being demolished. Family is the only thing I could hold on to after an event like this.

This is a pretty intense scene. My thing is (and animal lovers, email/comment all you want)…the only way I would even care about a horse in this situation is if he was making me money on the track.

It’s really amazing how powerful water can be.

I don’t throw this word around hardly at all, but this is just sweet. That’s the only way I can describe this moment.

Beach Please, With a Side of Oil?

As if this isn’t news to anybody…the Gulf of Mexico is being ruined by that awful oil spill! Does that mean good-bye to Gulf Shores and Panama City? Going from one beach to another, the oil is leaving behind ruined beaches and tar balls in it’s path. Luckily, my family came across a beautiful beach in South Carolina that will hopefully be safe from the oil. Myrtle Beach has all the fun activities as say…Panama City. From seafood restaurants to parasailing, Myrtle Beach is in no way a downgrade! The sand literally feels like baby powder!  The only downside is that it is a 9 hour drive, but come on it’s worth it! I just got back from our vacation and miss it like crazy!

If you ever decide to visit Myrtle Beach be sure to check out Celebrity Circle! It’s a really cool shopping area set up JUST like Downtown Disney and has paddle boats and really unique stores.

You get the picture?

You know, one of my main goals of writing a blog is not to bore the viewer. In that attempt, I am going to try my best to always have some sort of photo or video. At the least I’ll have a link or something.

I thought this would be a good chance to show you a site that I follow in my Google Reader.

The boy in the picture is winding back to throw a ball in a game of cricket. In this album, there is a conglomeration of really amazing photos that capture a day in Afghanistan. The Big Picture does an excellent job of displaying bits and pieces of the world around us that are at times major eye-openers and others just make you appreciate what you see.
